Outer Wilds

Return to the captivating, time-looping solar system of Mobius Digital’s multi-award-winning sci-fi adventure in OUTER WILDS. Featuring exclusive interviews with the game’s creators and community, never-before-seen art and much more: this is the ultimate celebration of one of the most influential video games of the last decade.

From thesis-year student project to multi-award winner, the development journey of Mobius Digital’s extraordinary debut is every bit as fascinating as the one you take in the game itself. Written by Chris Schilling (Edge), OUTER WILDS: DESIGN WORKS tells the absorbing story behind the creation of this seminal sci-fi adventure.

With detailed insights gleaned from extensive interviews with Mobius Digital, we dive deep into Outer Wilds’ inspirations, ranging from 2001: A Space Odyssey to The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker. We explore how its 2015 IGF award wins served as the propellant it needed for a triumphant take-off. We find out how its physically simulated planets broke every rule in the game design handbook. And we discover how one playtest inspired a Call Of Duty fan to “learn about physics”. With never-before-heard anecdotes from its development team and input from the game’s dedicated community, we bring you the ultimate celebration of this transcendent and inspirational interactive experience.

OUTER WILDS: DESIGN WORKS offers the definitive visual tribute to a modern classic, with eye-catching layouts presented via high-quality paper stocks and section sewn binding. The softcover package is adorned with an attractive silver wrap and a die-cut black hole. Inside the book, short-cut sand-coloured pages feature a selection of community-focused content.
